SERENA POLO CUP, 2019
Equestrian ship and its
diverse forms are thoroughly enjoyed throughout Pakistan. Polo’s splendor has
its deep rooted history in the valley of Shandur, and its competitive
magnificence in Lahore’s Quaid e Azam Polo Cup.
Recently, Islamabad witnessed
the thrilling competition between Asean and Kalabagh at the sixth Serena Polo
Cup final held in Islamabad Polo Club. Ali Nawaz Gandapur was invited as the
chief guest, who himself prides on being a horseman and a follower of the game.
Asean had previously defeated Varioline in the
eighth match with a score of 8 to 5, securing their place for the final. Asean
had conquered the game when it came against Shahtaj(winners of the fifth
contest, held in 2018) and were perceived as the favorites.
However, Kalabagh bagged the
Cup after placing 6 goals to 5 by Asean. The game was a tough contest, with
mallet crashing and ferocious siding by the horses which clinged to the
viewer’s interests till the fourth ‘chukkah’ (round).
Sports like Polo are an
admirable way of highlighting Pakistan’s positive image because a significant
amount of International players take part in these contests. Polo has been a
niche sport enjoyed by a fortunate few; particularly because of the expenses it
incurs. We’ll be posting a detailed and insightful blog about this beautiful
sport, specifying the rules and etiquettes and what makes this game interesting
for a Polo player and the audience.
